DAY 4: TUESDAY 5TH JUNE 1960:  Going home day. But as long as we were home by early evening, the rest of the day was ours. So, we went down from Winchester to Bournemouth, the intention being to catch a "2 hour train" from Bournemouth back up to Waterloo. Then, over to Paddington, an hour or so of spotting, and back to Birmingham Snow Hill on either the 4.10pm Paddington-Birkenhead, or the 5.10pm Paddington -Wolverhampton.
But first, a few trains seen at EASTLEIGH: 34013 Okehampton passed at 9.37am on the 8.20am Waterloo to Bournemouth West (11): 75067 arrived on a local service from the Bournemouth line at 9.13, 34024 Tamar Valley passed at 9.20am on a Southampton Docks to Waterloo Boat train (9+3v), and 35005 Canadian Pacific passed at 9.27am on the 7.34am Weymouth to Waterloo, the Royal Wessex (13)

At WINCHESTER, we saw 34010 Sidmouth on the Waterloo to Weymouth Quay Boat train, which passed at 9.53am, a Waterloo to Southampton Docks Boat train at 10.03am, with 30856 Lord St Vincent (8+4P+v).

We then caught the 8.30am Waterloo-Bournemouth West as far as Bournemouth Central. 34006 Bude with load 10+v, and shortly afterwards joined the 11.30am Weymouth to Waterloo, 35011 General Steam Navigation, with a heavy load of V+12, 490 tons full. We had a decent run up to London, caught the tube over to Paddington, arriving at 3.40pm, decided to have an extra hour or so spotting, so chose the 5.10pm to travel home (on 6005).

And so ended a splendid weekend. Must do it again!. But we never did, though we did do a 10 hour stint at Battledown in 1961, and another in 1965, and yet again in 1966, when steam was very nearly at an end.
