South Wales Shed visits: 1953
 
In 1953, I had two South Wales Shed Bashes, and they were within five weeks of one another. The first was on August Bank Holiday Sunday, the 29th and was not planned. I had gone on a Central Wales fishing trip with my father, which heavy rainfall on the Saturday put paid to. So we headed south, and starting with Llandore (87E), continued to Danycraig (87C), Newport Ebbw Junction (86A), and Severn Tunnel Junction (86E). After a night at Chepstow, we then headed south east to Salisbury, and then Eastleigh, to complete a memorable weekend. Some Fishing Trip!

The second trip to South Wales was on Railtour organised by the Stephenson Locomotive Society, from Birmingham, using ex GW Railcar no 14. The date was Sunday 4th October 1953. Visits were made  to the following sheds. Gloucester (85B), Severn Tunnel Junction (86E), Newport Ebbw Junction (86A), Cardiff Canton (86C), Pontypool Road (86G), and finally Hereford (85C). And I never went to South Wales again in steam days, although I did get as far as Newport in 1964 on Western Hydraulic hauled trains from and to Paddington.
