Severn Valley Railway 2003

 2003 Welsh Steam Gala

The 2003 Spring Gala had a Welsh theme, with visiting engines being Taff Vale 0-6-2T no 85, ex GW 0-6-2T no 5637. Hudswell Clark 0-6-0ST no 813 was from the SVR fleet. The event took place on 15th and 16th March 2003. My visit was on Saturday 15th March, and I travelled to and from Kidderminster behind TV 0-6-2T no 85, 8F Class 2-8-0 no 48773, and 2-6-0 no 42968. There was a hazy sun for most of the day, ideal for photography.

The upper group of photographs were taken at Highley and Arley during the event.

The lower photographs were taken during a June 2003 visit to Arley, including an enjoyable walk past Victoria Bridge. Thomas (The Lady Armadale) is well in evidence.

 2003 Autumn Steam Gala

The 2003 Autumn Steam Gala took place from 19th to 21st September. My visit was on Sunday 21st, a day with a reasonable amount of sunshine.  Terrier 0-6-0T no 32678, from the Kent & East Sussex Railway, was a hugely popular visitor, and ran local services between Kidderminster, Bewdley, Arley, and Highley throughout the day. Also in evidence was BR Standard 5MT 4-6-0 no 73096, on loan from the Mid Hants line. To add to the Southern flavour, West Country class 4-6-2 no 34027 Taw Valley ran disguised as classmate 34045 Ottery St Mary.

Photos were taken at Kidderminster, Bewdley, and Arley, and I travelled behind 32678, 73096, and 34045 Ottery St Mary!.
