The
FOXFIELD RAILWAY was constructed in 1893 to enable Coal to be carried
from Foxfield Colliery to Blythe Bridge, where it was transferred to the
North Staffordshire Railway. In 1965 the Colliery closed, and the line
was rescued for preservation. Passenger services now run along the
central section between Caverswall Road and Dilhorne Park. Freight
trains run between Foxfield Colliery up Foxfield Bank to Dilhorne Park.
And at the other end of the line Freights operate over part of the
Blythe Bridge incline.
Motive power comprises a superb
collection of Industrial Tank Engines, and it is usual for up to 8
locomotives to be turned out for the annual July gala.
My July 2004 visit coincided with
dull weather, with a little rain. In 2006, it was a hot, sultry, July
day, with bright sunshine. The photos below were taken at Caverswall
Road, Dilhorne Park, or from beside the Foxfield incline.
