Gloucestershire Warwickshire Rly 2003/2004

2003 was an important year for the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway. For on Saturday 12th April, the extension to Cheltenham Racecourse was opened. And, by co-operation with the North York Moors Railway, the first public train was hauled by Schools class 4-4-0 no 30925 Cheltenham, albeit 30926 Reption renamed and renumbered for the occasion. Needless to say that I travelled on the opening train. Also operating was GW 2-8-0 no 3822. My next visit was on 11th May 2003, when I travelled on 3822 and 6412, the latter a visiting loco from the West Somerset Railway. My final visit in 2003 was on 11th July, the Friday of the Summer Diesel Week. I travelled behind 24081, 47105, D8137, 37215, and 37324.

A feature of 2004 was the visit of GW 4-4-0 City of Truro, firstly for running in after major overhaul, and then for a period of use on service trains. During the year, I visited the line three times, on 4th April, 9th May, and 21st August. Locomotives I travelled behind included 3440 City of Truro, 7903 Foremark Hall, 0-6-0 no 3205, 2-8-0 no 3822, 2-8-0T no 4247, 2-6-2T no 5199.
