But there was no Electric Loco available to work the train forward. It was decided to continue with 47818, but to avoid running round at New Street, the train proceeded via Aston and Bescot to Wolverhampton, losing 8 minutes in the process. Further Signal checks and p.w slowings caused further losses onwards to Crewe. To my delight, 47818 worked right through to Edinburgh, although I was only able to go as far as Carlisle, where arrival was 32 minutes late.
