| I was fortunate to have two journeys over the Woodhead line before it closed in 1981. Both were eastbound, and were Steam Charters that included Woodhead line electric haulage in their itineraries. I had many runs on the Gatwick Electrics. Sometimes to catch, or coming off, a flight. Sometimes on my way to Haywards Heath to catch a bus to the Bluebell line. The Merseyrail Electric journeys were not planned. I just found myself in Liverpool with a few hours to spare. A summer break at Shanklin meant travelling on the Isle of Wight line, which I had last done with steam in 1964. The 91 haulage arose whilst travelling between Tamworth to Keighley. And a class 304 from Manchester to Birmingham was hardly luxury. Two tours with Pathfinder in 1996 and 1999 gave me haulage on the NRM's E5001 Bo-bo electric, and on class 92 no 92001 Victor Hugo, from Crewe to Carlisle. |
